One of the great things about running a Libertarian news website is discovering the many fantastic Libertarians all across this country. There are the activists who fight everyday for ballot access and growing the party. There are also the great many that have decided to carry the torch of liberty and run for office.
One of those torch bearers is Lily Tang Williams who is the Libertarian candidate for the U.S. Senate in Colorado. Mrs. Williams is not just an ordinary candidate for the senate. Williams escaped communist china many years ago and has brought those experiences to the campaign trail.
Here is a quick bio of Lily Tang Williams from her website:
Born in the wild west of China, Sichuan province before the Cultural Revolution, raised with her two sibling brothers by illiterate working-class parents, Lily grew up facing poor living conditions, food rationing, Communist indoctrination, and political and social chaos under Mao’s regime. In this tumultuous environment, she quickly developed street smarts and compassion as well as the values of perseverance and hard work.
Lily received her university law degree at Fudan University in Shanghai and was a faculty member of the law school for three years. She came over to the U.S.A. in 1988 and earned a Master’s degree at The University of Texas at Austin, School of Social Work.
Lily worked for corporations in Hong Kong and the U.S.A. as a corporate executive. Lily became a Colorado small business woman and entrepreneur in 2000.
Williams embodies the ideals and principles that we fight for everyday as Libertarians. A free and prosperous society is the fundamental foundation to our thinking and Williams shares that message with Coloradans everyday. She will fight everyday for our liberties and freedoms. She will change the political atmosphere in Washington and bring passion and a new way of thinking to an institution that has been stuck for decades.
She appeared at the National Convention in Orlando at the end of May and roused the crowds that she spoke to. Here is a video of one of those speeches:
It is important for Libertarians to support not just the Presidential race, but more importantly the down ticket races at the state and local levels. We will be able to achieve success at these levels and grow the party, especially in an election year like this one.
