Governor Gary Johnson, the Libertarian candidate for President, has been making the pitch in the past few weeks that Bernie Sanders supporters who are now disgruntled at the prospect of Hillary Clinton being their party’s nominee should take a look at him.

Indeed, according to a recent Bloomberg poll, “barely half of those who favored Sanders—55 percent—plan to vote for Clinton. Instead, 22 percent say they’ll vote for Trump, while 18 percent favor Libertarian Gary Johnson.” Eighteen percent is a decent slice of the Bernie pie for a third party candidate.

The possibility of Sanders voters supporting the Libertarian nominee is not a far fetched idea.  The two have more in common then people might realize at first. The fact that 22 percent in this poll said they would support Donald Trump is interesting, but the fact that a third party is playing this well, with no real name recognition, is something else.

The Libertarian message is appealing to the millennial generation.  Analyzing the social aspect of the Libertarian platform shows many comparisons to the Bernie Sanders agenda.

The CNN Town Hall tonight might increase this number of Sanders supporters that would vote for Gary Johnson.  Many people are lost and confused with Trump and Clinton being the leading candidates, and they will hear a new message tonight.
