I am an average voter, registered as an independent…but I lean toward the conservative side and look for candidates supported by evangelicals. I freely admit I don’t know all the issues, and am totally disgusted with both Clinton and Trump as presidential candidates! The other day I decided to do a Google search to see who else was running…and found the Libertarians. After reading some of information available about the Libertarian platform, I am inclined to vote Libertarian.

I would like to ask a question.

Congress is filled with Democrats and Republicans. There seems to be a lot of resistance for Republicans in Congress to support a Democrat President, and for Democrats in Congress to support a Republican President. How do you expect to be able to gain any support in Congress when you are neither Democrat or Republican?

Libertarians are both conservative (fiscally) and liberal (socially) this gives us a unique ability to find terra firma on both sides of the political aisle. Many social aspects of Libertarianism also address both liberal and conservatives alike. It’s a basic canon of our party to support a strict Constitutional Republic. This means that we believe in protecting the basic human rights spelled out in the Bill of Rights. All freedom for all Americans means you may exercise your rights as long as you do nothing to infringe on the rights of others. It’s part of the Non-Agression principle that says (in an over-simplified way) do whatever you want, make whatever choices you want, as long as you don’t hurt anyone or take anything from them by aggression. On the fiscal side, conservatives and liberals alike have roots in our Platform as well. Smaller government and repeal of the individual and corporate income tax to stimulate job growth and bring back jobs from foreign shores speaks to conservative ideals and removal of wasteful spending in the form of corporate welfare is palatable to liberals. There is much that can be done, within the strict framework of our Constitution to make this nation what it once was, a great land of freedom and opportunity for everyone.
