Donald Trump Pulls Out Of Paris Climate Accord

“In order to fulfill my solemn duty to protect America and her citizens, the United States will withdraw from the Paris Climate Accord,” announced President Donald Trump today at a White House Press conference.

He continued to say “we will start to renegotiate and we’ll see if there’s a better deal,” although, a joint statement from France, Germany and Italy states that the accord can’t be renegotiated.

The Paris Climate Accord was deal among 196 nations created in 2015 meant to fight global warming by adopting green energy and cut down on emissions globally. Limiting the rise in temperature to 2 degrees C was a central part of the agreement as well as providing $100 billion a year to developing countries for the purposes of switching them from fossil fuels to green energy.

The deal was criticized for being “weak” by environmental activist groups and Politico responded to the original agreement, “the talks [were] rigged to ensure an agreement is reached regardless of how little action countries plan to take.”

Senator Rand Paul released a statement claiming “I am pleased that President Trump has followed through on his promise to exit the Paris Agreement, an agreement which experts believe will not actually solve the environmental issues it was intended to address, and continued to put forth a truly America First Energy Policy.”

Representative Thomas Massie also stated “There is no way to meet the level of CO2 emissions that President Obama signed up for in the Paris Climate Accord without drastically raising the price of energy on every consumer in the United States and hurting our economy.”

The process of removing the United States from the deal will not be completed until November 2020, which would be perfect timing if Trump should run for reelection.
