Profiles in Libertarianism: Interview with Adam Kokesh, LP Presidential Candidate

As the 2020 election approaches we are starting a series that will highlight the candidates that are running for President for the Libertarian Party. The LP has the potential to really cause a wave in this country as the strongest third party that can challenge the status quo in America and produce a result that will be beneficial to the people that don’t associate themselves with either of the major parties in the United States.

To start off the series we reached out to Adam Kokesh and asked him a few questions about his run for the Presidency under the Libertarian banner. Here is that interview:

1. Why do you want to be President of the United States?

I don’t! You have to be some kind of psychopath to want to be president. My entire platform is based on taking the federal government through a bankruptcy process so I have to resign the presidency on day one to become, “Custodian of the Federal Government.”

2. What are three policies you will implement once elected President?

I have three policies that will cover every federal agency. They will all be spun off, apportioned among the states, or liquidated.

3. What would it look like if a Libertarian was sitting in the Oval Office and Congress was still run by the two major parties?

That would be an ugly scenario that my platform neatly sidesteps. However, if someone who wants to be President and calls themself a Libertarian, I imagine they’d be vetoing a lot of bills!

Interview conducted by Robert Bentley (CEO/Founder of the Libertarian Vindicator) & Adam Kokesh (Presidential Candidate, Libertarian Party) 6/10/2019

Adam Kokesh is famous for his involvement in the Iraq Veterans Against the War group. He was a member of the United States Marine Corps that saw action in Iraq following the invasion by George Bush in 2003.

After his return from Iraq Adam was heavily involved in anti-war campaigns and became a political activist for the Libertarian Party.

His platform for President is quite simple:

“When elected, I will swear in, walk to the White House, and sign one executive order. This executive order will lay out the process for dissolving the federal government in a peaceful, orderly manner. With it, I will be resigning as President to become “Custodian of the Federal Government.” The executive order will appoint heads of each federal department, or “Custodians” who will be instructed to carry out a mostly predetermined plan for their departments. The only authority that I will retain will be to replace Custodians if they are unable to complete their responsibilities or are not faithfully executing the plan.”
