Libertarians Need to Stop Defending Trump

800x-1

The one thing that has been bugging me for some time is watching many Libertarians online defending the actions and Presidency of Donald Trump. Am I forgetting something? Did we not have an election where we tried to stop this man from becoming President?

Too often when I am online in my Libertarian circles there are so-called Libertarians defending the Presidency of Trump saying “well he is actually more Libertarian than you think!” I stop, sit back and think, how can they be saying that. Donald Trump is the furthest thing from a Libertarian and self-proclaimed Libertarians online need to stop defending this man.

The most recent argument they have to show their support is the recent tax reform. Yes, there are some good things in this new tax law but they fail to forget the key component of it all, there was not cut to spending and our national debt is going to keep rising to astronomical numbers.

Trump also has a foreign policy mindset of a Democrat that is threatening the stability of the world. He is far from a non-interventionist approach to world affairs like some are claiming and is pitting the world on the brink of World War III.

Libertarianism is the belief that respect for individual rights is the essential precondition for a free and prosperous world, that force and fraud must be banished from human relationships, and that only through freedom can peace and prosperity be realized. Trump has no respect for individual rights and is deep into fraud.

Finally, I can’t get past the overt lying! The guy has something wrong with him and can’t control himself when it comes to his words. I stand for better. I stand for sanity and this guy is far from that.

This was just really a small rant to get things off my chest because I care too much about Libertarianism to see it thrown away by people that defend this man. Liberty means too much to me and I hold it high on a pedestal. Trump comes from a thick ugly swamp that could care less about my freedom and liberty.

So, Libertarians around the country please stop defending this man!

  1. Thankfully I don’t know any outright Libertarian Trump cheerleaders but there are those that try to make the case of “Yea he is not a Libertarian but what about Ajit Pai, Scott Pruitt, Mick Mulvaney, Neil Gorsuch and Betsy DeVos?” Heck, I’d even throw in Elaine Chao.

In the end I do admit that the string ball of government is ravelling faster than it is unravelling. The truth is that the current establishment has only shrunk the rate of ball growth not shrunk it overall.
To they them those that still cheerlead for Trump I say call me when the US debt goes down and I’ll treat you to a glass of sparkling water. Till then you are obviously still drunk on that rotgut the Republicans pass off as the spirit of freedom.

  2. The only way I’ve seen libertarians defending Trump is concerning his relative improvement over the likely alternatives and on particular policies. I’ve never seen or heard anyone claiming he is universally great or a standard-bearer for Libertarianism. I don’t think you have either (correct me if I’m wrong) so perhaps you can relax a little? 🙂
