All across this country we have seen elected officials from the Republican Party switching their party affiliation to the Libertarian Party. It has happened again and in what might be a powerful position. We have seen state legislators switch, which is pretty big, but somebody like Aubrey Dunn who is New Mexico’s state land commissioner has a wealth of power in the state and can make some impactful decisions regarding land distribution.
From the Santa Fe New Mexican:
State Land Commissioner Aubrey Dunn, one of New Mexico’s top elected Republicans, has switched parties and registered to vote as a Libertarian.
Dunn said Saturday he is considering his next political move as his term comes to an end later this year. Some Libertarians have launched a campaign to draft him as their candidate for the U.S. Senate.
Regardless of his next steps, Dunn’s departure from the GOP means Republicans now hold one less statewide elected office. And it comes as the party grapples with factional battles as well as its very identity in a purple state during the age of President Donald Trump.
There is a movement growing across this country and it is starting to show. The two old parties are becoming obsolete as many Americans and elected officials are starting to realize that they are one in the same trying to achieve the same goal, the restriction of freedom.
